A Roman Catholic priest in my hometown of Greenville, South Carolina made the national news today by telling the members of his church who voted for Obama not to partake in Communion on Sunday. According to Rev. Jay Scott Newman of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, supporting Obama “constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil.”
The Greenville clergyman went on to warn “that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.”
It appears Obama’s stance on abortion propelled the priest’s admonitions, who used Obama’s middle name and called him “the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president.”
Strange news. I’ve actually been inside this beautiful church. Here’s the original letter, which St. Mary’s posted on their website.
